A new report collected by the US Democrats Natural Resources Committee summarises how this blood sport is hurting wildlife populations more than helping to save them – as is often mentioned as the purpose to allow this practice.

In its report, “Missing the Mark”, the NRC records that money paid to countries like South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe to kill wildlife does little to help conservation, thanks to poor levels of management in environmental programmes.

The report said that in spite of the reasoning of helping conservation, populaces of the animals most hunted (specially the ‘big five’) have seen huge deterioration, with certain kinds (such as the Northern Black rhino) on the brink of extermination.
