According to Journal du Cameroun, a representative for the regional police, Maureen Mbeha said, “the group were professional big game trophy hunters on a mission to kill an elephant.”
Family and friends have been informed of Jose’s death.
Sadly many elephants are still being killed by poachers and this is not the first time a hunter has been killed this year.
A few months ago on May 21, Theunis Botha—a South African hunter—was killed in Zimbabwe after he met a group of pregnant elephants.
The 51-year-old was leading a group in Gwai when he came across a herd of elephants. The animals began to charge towards him, when one of Botha’s partners attempted to shoot the elephant, which then collapsed onto Botha, killing him.
